The ALICE Thesis Award committee is pleased to announce the two winners of the ALICE best thesis award for 2013. Every year, the committee selects two thesis, one for the best physics thesis award and one for the best technical thesis award.

The quality of the thesis submitted this year was very high, making the task of the committee both interesting and challenging!

The two thesis that have been selected among the strong competition are:

Marta Verweij (Utrecht University) - best physics thesis. Marta's thesis focuses on "Modelling and measurement of jet quenching in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at the LHC". .

Xianguo Lu (Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg) - best technical thesis. In his PhD Xianguo explored "the performance limits of the ALICE Time Projection Chamber and Transition Radiation Detector for measuring identified hadron production at the LHC".

We would like to congratulate Marta and Xianguo for their excellent achievements!

The official award ceremony will take place during the March collaboration board meeting (28 March).
