It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in the ALICE Physics Week that will be held at Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla from 27 November to 1 December. APW-Puebla will bring together members of the ALICE collaboration to discuss on their latest research progress and is the seventh in the series; following APW05(Erice), APW07(Munster), APW08(Prague), APW10(Paris), APW11(Jyvaskyla) and APW12(Frascati).

Puebla City is surrounded by volcanoes and snow-capped mountains, about 100 km south-east of Mexico City. It was founded as “Puebla de los Angeles” in 1531, although now known as “Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza” since 1862. It is a safe city, ideal for exploring on foot.

During the colonial period, Puebla was the second most important city. Today you can admire its colonial treasures including buildings that make use of ornamental tiles called Talavera and numerous churches. Puebla's historic centre was granted UNESCO world heritage status in 1987. The cathedral, built between 1552 and 1649, is one of the finest in Mexico; the old theater constructed in 1790 is said to be the oldest in the Americas. Near Puebla you can find archaeological sites settled by Olmecas-Xicalancas: Cholula and Cacaxtla. Puebla is also home to classic Mexican dishes like “mole poblano” and “chiles en nogada”.

The scientific programme is chaired by Federico Antinori and organised by members of the Physics Board. If you would like to give a talk at APW-Puebla, please contact your Physics Analysis Group.

As a separate but connected event, we will be celebrating Guy Paic's 75th birthday from Saturday 1 December afternoon until Sunday 2 December in the evening. The scientific programme includes invited talks by distinguished theorists and a social dinner. An excursion is planned for Sunday morning.

We hope that you can find some time in your busy schedule to attend the APW and share your ideas and projects here in Puebla. Since places are limited, you are kindly requested to register as soon as possible. Fellowships are available to support the participation of PhD students and young post-docs at the APW-Puebla.

Key dates:

Registration deadline: 31 October 2012
