Mehdi Abdi studies graphic design in the ARIES school of design. During his first steps he was painting houses to finance his studies. Although this job provided some stability and a good income he felt like seeking a job that would have more meaning to him. He decided to change and became a social policy officer and held this post for a few years. The profession of social educator was very interesting but an old dream kept haunting him. His passion for drawing and visual storytelling led him to resume studies to become graphic narrator and thus Mehdi started evening classes after work.
In 2012 he joined ARIES in the French town of Annecy, to complete his studies in graphic design. For his end-of-year project in 2013
he realized a 150 pages comic book and an augmented reality application for smartphones. In 2014, Mehdi created a fictitious company of visual communication; this project led him to create visual identities, smartphone applications and web sites and got a final mark of 18 out of 20.
As far as he remembers, Mehdi always has been drawing. His early stories are inspired by anatomy and are based on visual storytelling.
His comic strips were published in a fanzine.
His studies in ARIES have also revealed a passion for 3D. He appreciated the architectural modeling in 3DS Max and ZBrush digital sculpting. Over the past months he created a sculpture of the Belgian singer Stromae, a tribute to him.
Mehdi loves sequential art, cinema, game art, and spends his free time with friends. During this summer he will be working with the ALICE outreach group in renewing the ALICE comic book.
