The delegates came with the purpose of strengthening their collaboration with the ALICE experiment as an Associate Member and of working toward Full Membership status. On February 6th ALICE Spokesperson Paolo Giubellino and Deputy Spokesperson Yves Schutz guided us around the experiment. Their warm welcome and great hospitality was greatly appreciated. It was very impressive to learn all about the physics and construction technology behind such a complicated machine.

Next morning, the team from SUT got a chance to discuss, with Federico Carminati and Latchezar Betev, the detailed techniques for setting up an ALICE Tier 2 Computing Centre at SUT. At 11 am, details of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the ALICE collaboration and SUT were drafted and agreed by both parties, with the help of Emmanuel Tsesmelis, CERN Directorate Office. Before ending the official visit it was a great opportunity to meet CERN Director General Rolf-Dieter Heuer.
