ALICE Event at the Scottish Parliament

As the world’s largest science experiment, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) enjoys a keen international interest. The UK’s Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) has created a travelling exhibition called “LHC on Tour” which was open to public, in the Main Hall of the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh from 2 to 8 February 2013.

Italian students spend a week in ALICE

A masterclass for a group of 15 selected Italian high-school students took place from October 15th to 19th. The students attend the 4th year at “Liceo Classico Statale Cagnazzi” in Altamura, a nice and quiet town at 50 km from Bari. The week spent at CERN was part of a three-week long stage, funded by the Ministry of Education, University and Research, with the aim of introducing some selected students to the world of fundamental physics and in particular to nuclear and sub-nuclear research activities.

A message from our spokesperson.

As you know, another very important moment is approaching for the Collaboration. While we prepare the Technical Design Reports for the Upgrade of the experiment which was endorsed by the LHCC in September (due in the summer), we have to reach a decision on three proposals which are being developed in the collaboration for additional detectors, which would extend the scope of ALICE in Particle Identification (the VHMPID) in muon tracking (the MFT) and in forward calorimetry (the FOCAL).
