News from the ALICE Collaboration board

During the last Collaboration board, which took place on the 18 December, the proposal to change the duration of the mandates of elected members of the collaboration was accepted. The mandates of the Spokesperson, the Chair of the Collaboration board and all coordinators (except the Offline, Technical and Finance coordinators), are now going to last for three years and will be non-renewable.

New PhD’s with ALICE

In October 2015 Javier Martin Blanco from the University of Nantes presented his PhD thesis on the "Study of J/Ψ production dependence with the charged particle multiplicity in p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV and pp collisions at √s = 8 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC". It was completed under the supervision of Dr. Gines Martinez Garcia (SUBATECH) and Dr. Laurent Aphecetche (SUBATECH, co-supervisor).

On the 9 November 2016 a workshop dedicated to 30 years of heavy-ion physics will take place at CERN.

On 18 November 1986 CERN had its first heavy-ion beam. That is why one afternoon during the ALICE week in November is reserved for the celebration of this important moment.
