New PhDs with ALICE

On the 14th of June 2016 Dr. Katherin Shtejer Diaz from CEADEN, Cuba and University of Turin, Italy, successfully defended her PhD thesis. Her work, titled "Study of muon bundles from extensive air showers with the ALICE detector at the LHC", was supervised by Dr. Bruno Alessandro and Prof. Massimo Masera (INFN - Section of Turin, and Institute of Physics of Turin).

The ALICE Juniors

The ALICE juniors form a community of people in the beginning of their career. They conduct a big part of the day-to-day data analysis, they perform service tasks, detector calibration and development, thus contributing to the smooth and efficient operation of the experiment.

Two weeks at ALICE with a lifetime impact

Kevin Richard Coulombe is a high school teacher, working with Dr. Jennifer Klay from the California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo, USA. He is the main organiser of an outreach programme in California, aimed at high school students. Thanks to his programme this year his students had the pleasure of attending an ALICE Strange Particle Enhancement masterclass in March. They also conduct research during the school year, which they present at Cal Poly during a Poster Conference.
