Earlier in August, the ALICE thesis award committee circulated a call for submitting proposals for this year’s award.

More specifically, those who have defended their thesis in the year preceding 15 November 2015 and who have not been nominated for the ALICE thesis award before are invited to apply for the Thesis Awards 2015.

Because the administration of the applications has become quite a challenge we have asked to make the CERN recruitment pages available for this purpose. Please note that you will have to create a CERN recruitment account as indicated on the web page. Your standard CERN account will not work.

To submit your application you can follow the link:

This year there is also a free text box on the web page that allows you to add additional comments that you want us to take into account.

Like in past years you need to submit:

1) A link to the thesis (preferably PDF)

2) An extended summary in English if the thesis is not in English

3) The date of defence.

4) A CV with a list of your contributions to the ALICE experiment.

5) Please ask two senior physicists to send us a reference letter in English. We require two separate reference letters, one from your own institute
(supervisor) and one from outside your own institute. The web page explains how the references can be uploaded by these senior physicists themselves.

The application should reach the ALICE thesis committee by the 15th of November.

The Alice thesis award ceremony will be held in the CB meeting during the first ALICE week in 2016. The winners will be invited to give a flash talk (3 min) about their work during the CB meeting while they will also  receive a commemorative plaquette. In addition the collaboration awards 500 CHF to each winner.

In case you have any questions or comments about the procedure or about the web page please do not hesitate to contact me Paul Kuijer on behalf of the ALICE thesis award committee.
