Welcome to the second issue of Matters. With the heavy ion run having started up on 7 November, this certainly is an exciting time for the ALICE Experiment.

In this fortnight’s issue, we explain how the Large Hadron Collider’s ion chain works, report on developments from the Collaboration Board, introduce the newest institutes to join ALICE, announce a new doctor and, of course, bring you news straight from the heavy ion programme.
As usual, Matters is open for submissions – so if you have news, information or an opinion you would like to share – please do get in touch.
I hope you enjoy reading,
Editor, ALICE Matters
