During the recent ALICE Week that was organized jointly with the ALICE Physics Week in Wuhan, several important elections took place.
First of all, Peter Braun-Munzinger has been re-elected as Chairperson of the ALICE Collaboration, effectively renewing his current mandate for another three years. Moreover, Yves Schutz and Johannes Wessels have renewed their mandate as Deputy Spokespersons of the Collaboration for three years. In addition, two of the elected members of the Management Board were renewed for three years, namely Wisla Carena and Tapan Nayak. We hope that you will all join us in congratulating them.
Anthony Timmins is replacing Panos Christakoglou in the Conference Committee while Gines Martinez has been appointed as the Project Leader for the MFT detector.
New convenors have also been elected for four of the ALICE Physics Working Groups. Furthermore, the mandates of three add-personam members of the Physics Board have been renewed and they will keep contributing in the board: Jurgen Schukraft for three years while John Harris and Peter Braun-Munzinger for two years.
Reflecting the continuous growth of the collaboration, the Technical University of Munich (already an associate member of ALICE ) has been accepted as a full member of ALICE. The Upgrade Plans of the Collaboration continue to attract many new research teams and institutes around the world and the Collaboration Board discussed how they could make the most of their participation in ALICE.
Hearty congratulations to Catherine Decosse, ALICE Resource Coordinator, who has been promoted to Department Planning Officer of the CERN PH Department. Catherine will gradually start working in her new position from next year, after 13 years with ALICE. Catherine has served the ALICE Collaboration in various positions. She joined ALICE as assistant to the RC in 2000. From 2006 to 2009 she was the ALICE Outreach Coordinator before finally becoming Resource Coordinator of the Experiment.
Adriana Telesca has been elected as the new ALICE Resource Coordinator. She joined ALICE in 2008 working in the ALICE DAQ group. Catherine will train Adriana in her new duties and ensure that there will be a smooth transition to the new Resource Coordinator.
Finally, during the Collaboration Board it has been decided that voting rights will be given to the Junior representatives. Following the hard efforts of the Junior committees and recognizing the importance of their participation in decision-making, the Collaboration Board came up with this important decision for the younger ALICE members and the future of the collaboration.
