The new extension to CERN’s Restaurant 1 was inaugurated by CERN’s Director General, Rolf Heuer, on 9 December.

The extension, located on the eastern-most side of building 501, is divided into two sections: holding, respectively, 70 and 240 places dedicated to dining, relaxation and work. The area is light, spacious and well-illuminated – and is decked out with modern furniture.
At the ceremony, Heuer offered his thanks to those involved in completing this project in such a short time – citing the importance of offering comfortable spaces in which to undertake research.
Work on Restaurant 1, which is run by Novae, continues. Another section of the dining area has been set aside for renovation – with the refurbishment expected to be complete by early March next year.
