The Users’ Office is to be relocated from the 8 December, to enable renovation works to be undertaken. The office will be found instead in building 510-R-033, and will remain there until the end of February 2011.
The works taking place are an extension of the renovations which have already been undertaken on the first floor in the main building.
CERN's Users' Office, in the main building, is soon to be renovated
“Once the Restaurant No. 1 extension works are complete, work will start on renovating the existing restaurant area and the corridor next to the Users’ Office,” said John Osborne, of CERN’s General Infrastructure Services Department. “New floor coverings will be installed, the walls painted, a new false ceiling installed in the corridor area, and the doors replaced.”
Furthermore, a new ceiling and soundproofing will be fitted to the Users’ Office, and the floor will be re-laid to correct the mild sloping seen towards the outside windows.
“This is rather annoying for the people who are sitting in this part, because the chairs roll downhill!” said Jose Salicio Diez, Head of the Users’ Office, adding: “We are trying to solve this problem at the same time. It will be an improvement afterwards.”
In addition to these upgrades, the computer terminals located outside the Users’ Office will also be rearranged to a better orientation. This is in order to reduce screen glare.
Diez explained that the office will be closed on the morning of the 8 December to enable the move to take place. “This is the only concern,” he said. “Otherwise, the normal working of the Users’ Office will not be affected.”
In February the office will return to its previous home in building 60. “Once the works are finished, we will be moving back straight away,” Diez said. The office will likely be closed once again for the duration of the move back, although the date for this is yet to be confirmed.
The opening hours of the Users’ Office are as follows:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 08.30 – 12.30
Monday to Friday: 14.00 – 16.00
Please also note that the office will be closed for the afternoon on 9 December.
