Dear ALICE members,

It is a great pleasure to share with you the news that the LHCC has decided to endorse the ALICE Upgrade!

After months of exchanges with the Committee, and three days of intense discussions, the strength of the Physics case and the progress of the developments on the implementation have convinced the committee that indeed the long term plan of ALICE is solid, and deserves to go ahead.

Of course, this is not the end of the story, but rather a beginning! We will have now to convince the funding agencies to provide the funds, complete the performance studies and the R&D and eventually build and operate the experiment! Yet, a fundamental milestone has been reached, the most critical one, and a future up to the mid-2020s opens in front of us.

I would like to take this opportunity to enthusiastically thank and congratulate all the very many people who have been working extremely hard and extremely well towards this result, of which we should all be proud as a Collaboration, since it is also a direct recognition of the quality of the work we have all been doing in ALICE throughout the years, and of the credibility and respect which we, as a Collaboration, have acquired.

This is a most intense year, and we cannot sit to enjoy this moment: the analysis presses, the run continues, pA is coming and, as I wrote, the next step towards the Upgrade is ahead of us, with the discussion with the funding agencies later in October. Finally, I would like to welcome you all to the ALICE week during which we will have the chance to further discuss the above developments and the latest physics results from our experiment.

Once more, this is a really great step for ALICE!

 All the best, Paolo
